Commemorating Young Martyr’s Day
October 9th, 2007
St Xaviers’ College Compound, Navrangpura, Ahmadabad
7.30pm onwards
In a recent national survey among the youth Bhagat Singh emerged as the tallest hero. Who was he? What was the dream that he fought for and laid his life for? The dream was so powerful that it moved the nation and thousands saw it in unison; the dream still throbs in the young minds of India.
Dream of an egalitarian and just society is inherited by every young generation. No one can snatch away this dream from them. History has shown that this dream survived the bullets, it survived the gallows, and it survived all the repression.
The memory of Young Martyr’s both from India and other part of the world continues to inspire the youth.
Anhad has declared October 9, 2007 as the Young Martyr’s Day. It is dedicated to the memory of Che Guevara, Bhagat Singh, Avtar Singh Pash, Vasant Rao, Rajab Ali, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya and Safdar Hashmi.
We do not mourn their death but celebrate their spirit.
Mallika Sarabhai will be the Guest of Honour and will release a poster and speak on the occasion. Six young people will give a brief introduction about Che Guevara, Bhagat Singh, Avtar Singh Pash, Vasant Rao, Rajab Ali and Safdar Hashmi and two of them will recite a poem each by Pash and Safdar.
Lounge Piranha: a Band from Bangalore will perform after that. The programme will begin at 7.30 and is likely to last two and a half hours.

Profile:
Lounge Piranha, a post-rock band from Bangalore was formed in 2005, and they hit the local music scene with a unique sound that could only be called their own. Ambient soundscapes combined with guitar distortion are layered on top of a tight rhythm section consisting of drums and bass. The focus is on song-writing and sound textures. Some call it alternative, some call it ambient, and some call it spiritual. A typical concert would consist of an almost exclusively original set which includes several of their own songs - fast gaining cult popularity, arresting visual effects, and some ethereal jams with guest artists varying from dijeridoo players to djembe players. And maybe even a couple of unexpected covers.
In recent times Lounge Piranha has been rapidly gaining popularity with some high profile shows around the city (see performances below). >From being voted as one of Bangalore’s top three bands in the Radio City Live poll in Mar 06 to opening the Vh1 Rock Rules show featuring Taxiride in Jun 06, the band has come a long way since its conception. While enjoying the bright lights and the big audiences the band also continues to moonlight the smaller stages with packed shows at pubs and clubs around the city. After winning the Indian TFA award in early 2007 and armed with a demo recorded in late 2006, the band is now all set to start gigging at other venues around the country.
Members:
George Mathen is an artist by day and fully in control of the drum kit by night. He is also fully irresponsible for Piranha’s visual identity.
Rohan Ramesh, current medical student and future quack, takes care of the bottom end with proficiency on his Warwick bass guitar.
Kamal Singh on guitar and vocals, uses lots of alternate tuning and open strings, and hits the grunge spot with some kind of strategic analysis and technological breakthrough.
Abhijeet Tambe on guitar and vocals emerges from the tangle of the electronic loops in his studio to provide the ambient soundscapes with lots of guitar delay and reverb.
