4:00 -5.00pm Umbrella Painting on Diversity: Children 10-15yrs (already registered for the program)

5.00pm onwards artists paint on a 100 feet canvas on the theme of diversity, pluralism, democratic rights ( we invite visual artists , students to participate)

5.00-6.00 pm - Interactive Session Diversity and Pluralism : Nandita Das and Rahul Bose talk to college students, youth ( others are invited too)

6.00-9.00pm – poetry, music, dance, theatre, solidarity statements

9.00-10.00pm- The programme will culminate with Dhruv Sangari, disciple of Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan adding flavour of Sufism by singing Sufi music. He will be accompanied on Tabla by Amjad Khan.

This is an open event for every denizen of Mumbai to join in and be part of ‘Celebration of Diversity and Pluralism' of Mumbai with the artists, dignitaries and organisers.

The programme is organised by Anhad and supported by Oxfam India and Hivos.

E Digest -In the context of Mumbai tragedy many thought provoking articles have been published. These highlight most of the facets of the problem, the phenomenon of terrorism, the state and social response to the same, the Government rushing to formulate new law giving more powers to investigating authorities, the investigation into terror attacks, the events building up to the terror attack and even the war cry against our neighbor, who herself is the victim of this phenomenon in equal measure.

What is important at this juncture is the joint efforts by India and Pakistan to root out the phenomenon from the sub continent, to investigate the terror attack and to pursue the investigations in to Malegaon blasts. It is also imperative that we have a broader and long term vision of Peace and opposition to Imperial designs of US, to restore the political/moral authority of UN with more emphasis on democracy amongst nations and to strengthen the global democratic process.

We wish to bring out such E digests for social activists to give them all the material for their mulling over and making up their minds on various issues in the struggle against the rising communalism and the threat of fascism.

PRESS STATEMENT

The tragic incident of terror attack on Mumbai on 27 November 2008 is yet one more of the terror attacks, which have been tormenting the nation. The loss of over hundred lives and death of police officers, ATS chief of Mumbai Police Hemant Karkare — who was investigating the Malegaon blast case, Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte, another Additional Commissioner Sadanand Date, noted encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, ATS sub-inspector Sudhir Dalvi and many other police officers is amongst the saddest moments of our national life

It is time that the nation stands unitedly to overcome the collective social grief and tragedy. We sincerely hope that the unfortunate incident which has taken lives of hundreds of innocents will not be politicized.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to the victim's families and salute the brave police officers who died while doing their duty. It is also time to reaffirm our trust and faith in the national resolve to strengthen the plural culture and diversity. We stand to reject the mixing of religion with the acts of terror, which has been a very negative phenomenon. It is necessary that Government boosts its intelligence to prevent these dastardly acts, it is mandatory that the Government and society come forward to rehabilitate the families of the victims. All care and precaution should be undertaken to ensure that such things don't repeat in future and we ensure that society lives in the peace free from the threats of terror phenomenon.

We hope the social situation will be brought to normal as soon as possible.
